ASK THE DOG

Your smog history. Your next step.

Check past inspections and whether your vehicle needs a STAR station before you visit.

Current records, straight from BAR.

Use BAR’s official plate or VIN lookup for current results. Your DMV renewal notice also tells you when a STAR station is required.

A VIN is more reliable because license plates can change.

A blue vehicle, Smog Dog holding an inspection scanner and a neutral report form a simple three-step sequence.

What the result means.

STAR required

Use a currently certified STAR station.

Referee directed

Follow the Referee instructions for your vehicle.

No STAR requirement

Call with your year, make, model and fuel type so we can confirm our station can inspect it.

No result or an unclear requirement

Check the VIN and your DMV notice. Missing records do not mean the vehicle is non-STAR or eligible for an offer.

THE SMOG DOG OFFER

$30 OFF

Model year 2000 and newer only.

DOG30

If your vehicle does not require a STAR or Referee inspection and we can perform its inspection, mention DOG30 at check-in. This offer is for model year 2000 and newer only.

No printout required.

Shop confirmation required. One coupon per vehicle; cannot be combined with other offers. $30 off the inspection price, not a $30 total price. Call for your vehicle’s price and applicable fees.

Follow your current requirements.

A past pass does not replace your current inspection or registration requirements.
